This is an inukshuk located on Sunset Beach in Vancouver, BC. This photo was taken on February 9th, 2010 with only three days before the start of the Winter Olympic Games. The inukshuk is the official symbol of the games.

An inukshuk is a stone landmark or cairn built by humans, used by the Inuit and other peoples of the Arctic region of North America. These structures are found from Alaska to Greenland. This region, above the Arctic Circle, is dominated by the tundra biome, containing areas with few natural landmarks.

The inukshuk may have been used for navigation, as a point of reference, a marker for hunting grounds, or as a food cache.

There is some debate as to whether the appearance of human or cross shaped cairns developed in the Inuit culture before the arrival of European missionaries and explorers.

At Enukso Point on Baffin Island there are over 100 inukshuk and the area has been designated one of Canada’s national historic sites.

This image was taken with four photos from -2 EV to +4 EV. It was processed in Photomatix.

Rainbow at Sunset, Sept. 6
Vancouver BC
The sky went through some amazing changes tonight. First I was looking west just waiting for something amazing to happen. Then I turned around and there was this amazing rainbow. Then the sky exploded with orange and ended with a bit of pink and purple. The arch of blue sky on the horizon stayed the whole time. Just incredible
